A year after government officials put it on the chopping block, a planned “international tourism area” along Suoi Hai Lake is still alive, minus one of its two golf courses.The Tan Vien resort, which will occupy more than 4,000 acres in the Ba Vi district of western Hanoi, had been approved in 2007 but was canceled last year, as part of a government crackdown on construction that wipes out rice fields and other vital agricultural property. Later in 2009, however, the Hanoi People’s Committee took a second look at the project, shrunk it a bit and reinstated it.

Meadowbrook Golf has added two Texas courses to its portfolio this year — Ridgewood Country Club in Waco and Lajitas Golf Resort & Spa in Lajitas, Texas. Meadowbrook has historically been focused in Florida and the Eastern seaboard. It was the third largest management company with 57 courses in 2001. Since then it has slowly shrunk. The two Texas courses bring its total portfolio to nine properties. “Underperforming properties have been sold and the company is now positioned to aggressively solicit new third party management contracts, leases and purchases throughout the country,” said Scott Beasley, Vice President of Operations for Meadowbrook Golf. “Texas is representative of our renewed focus.”Meadowbrook entered into a consulting agreement with Ridgewood Country Club early in the year.“We’ve completely changed how they look at their business,” Beasley said. ...

There is still time to enter submissions in Golf Inc.’s annual Clubhouse of the Year competition.
Golf Inc. is asking for submissions of new and renovated golf clubhouses opened between Jan. 1, 2009 and Dec. 1, 2010. Entries need to be submitted by Friday, Jan. 14. (Please note that the entry deadline has been extended. This is due to the competition feature being moved to the Spring issue of Golf Inc.)
